September 23rd, 2019 – This month the Songbird proved its inspection capabilities on railway tracks. For the flights a section of approx. 2 km length near the town of Eschweiler had been approved for BVLOS flights. Because it only takes a few minutes to cover such an area with the Songbird, inspection flights with different cameras could be carried out in the short breaks between trains passing by – this was an obligation of the permit.
The result is a series of high-resolution-images that can be used to create a 3D model of the landscape and help with vegetation management or identify defects on the track.
At the same time a system by Droniq (German Air Traffic Control and Telekom) was deployed in the Songbird for the first time, which allows UAVs to be integrated into air traffic management environments.
